Haaland reveals what he said to Guardiola after being substituted off
Erling Haaland scored five goals on Tuesday night against RB Leipzig before being substituted off at the hour by Pep Guardiola. A replacement that many have criticized and that has frustrated the Norwegian striker.
The second leg between Manchester City and RB Leipzig was marked by several questionable refereeing decisions in the first half, but above all it confirmed the incredible scoring instinct of Erling Haaland, who scored a resounding five goals. He is only the third player in history to achieve such a performance in the Champions League after Luiz Adriano and Leo Messi.
Many observers were therefore offended to see Pep Guardiola take the Norwegian out in the 63rd minute of play when he could have become the first to score six goals or more in the European competition. Questioned on the subject by Canal, Haaland did not want to argue: "Was I disappointed to be replaced? No... Of course I would have liked to play more, but other players also want to play."
"I would have loved to score a double hat-trick"
Speaking to BT Sport, the English broadcaster of the match, Haaland revealed what he told Guardiola after his substitution: "I told him I would have loved to score a double hat-trick (one in the first half, one in the second), but what could I do? I had to go out," he replied with a smile.
