Mercato: AC Milan want to steal Lukaku from Inter Milan
Back at Chelsea after his season-long loan at Inter Milan, Romelu Lukaku is of interest to... AC Milan, who are also targeting another of their rivals, Italian midfielder Davide Frattesi.
It's the big mercato news of the day in Italy. While <a href=/news/mercato-newcastle-send-eur70m-for-tonali>Newcastle are going for Sandro Tonali and could spend up to €80 million, AC Milan are reportedly considering a move for... Romelu Lukaku, on loan to rivals Inter last season after having already played there from 2019 to 2021, with success.
The Belgian striker is closely identified with Inter Milan, and everyone remembers his memorable head-to-head with Zlatan Ibrahimovic during the derby in January 2021. Two years on, could Big Rom betray Inter by joining the rival?
Lukaku and Frattesi thanks to Tonali's money?
According to Thursday's front page of La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan believe Chelsea could let the Belgian international go for €40 million. A sum that AC Milan will be able to pay thanks to Tonali's transfer to the Premier League, but which Inter cannot afford to ask for now.

AC Milan are not only interested in Lukaku, however, and are also making progress on the <a href=/news/mercato-psg-marcus-thuram-moves-closer-to-ac-milan>Marcus Thuram file, free of contract, as well as on Italian international Davide Frattesi. The Sassuolo midfielder has been rumoured to be in Inter Milan's sights for several weeks, but AC Milan intend to take their chances and will have the means to satisfy Sassuolo's demands of €35-40m for their player.
For their part, Inter Milan are negotiating a new loan deal for Lukaku with Chelsea, and will have to sell Marcelo Brozovic, who is being courted in Saudi Arabia, to be able to afford Frattesi. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are counting on the willingness of both players to beat off competition from their Milanese rivals. Will it be enough?
