Mercato Barça - Xavi: "Messi will decide next week".
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Xavi Hernandez reiterated his desire to be able to coach Lionel Messi at Barça next season, and announced that the Argentine would make his decision next week.
The Messi soap opera is coming to an end. That, at least, is the belief of Xavi Hernandez, who is in regular contact with his former team-mate. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona coach confirmed on Friday that the Argentine's decision was imminent, as Messi's clan had already hinted.
"He'll make a decision next week and we have to leave him alone. At the end of the day, if we talk about Leo every day, I don't think there's any point. He'll make a decision next week and there are now 200 hypotheses. He'll be the one to decide his future and the doors are open to him here, there's no more debate," let loose Xavi.
"The doors are open for him here".
A return to Barça, a move to Inter Miami or Al-Hilal - these are the three most credible options for Messi, who will not be extending his contract at PSG, as Christophe Galtier confirmed in a press conference on Thursday. Xavi will therefore soon have his mind made up, and seems relatively serene on the subject.
"I've said it several times, the doors are open to him here, I'm the coach and I know he'll help us if he decides to come, but in the end, I think we need to leave him a bit alone. He's finishing the season there, he has a lot of respect for Paris Saint-Germain, he wants to finish in the best way, he's finishing his contract and then he's earned every right in the world to say where to go, where to finish his career. I think he has the soccer to continue at the highest level and if he comes to Barça, which we all want here, especially me, the doors are open to him, I'm convinced he'll do a good job."
