Mercato Montpellier: Laurent Nicollin discusses the Thauvin dossier
MHSC president Laurent Nicollin has confirmed contacts with Florian Thauvin, who would like to join Montpellier.
Laurent Nicollin spoke to viàOccitanie on Monday, the day after L'Equipe reported that Florian Thauvin had offered himself to MHSC for next season. This information has been confirmed by Montpellier's president, who was nevertheless keen to temper the euphoria surrounding the deal.
"Flo', I already spoke to him in January because he wanted to leave Mexico. It's true that he called me because he thought it was a family club and that he would have liked to come to Montpellier. But it didn't happen. I saw him again a month and a half ago and he told me again that he was interested in coming to Montpellier. No more, no less," replied Laurent Nicollin, before confirming that his priority was to find a new striker to replace Elye Wahi, who was set for a big transfer.
"Thauvin? It's more likely not to happen than to happen".
"The priority is the centre-forward. After that, we'll see if we need to complete or not. Thauvin is under contract at Brescia (Udinese, editor's note). We had a chat with him and it went really well. It's always a pleasure to see a player like that interested in a club like Montpellier. After that, I don't know if it will happen. For the moment, it's more likely not to happen than to happen. But that doesn't mean we haven't been in touch and talked. But he's not the only player I'm talking to."
