Mercato PSG: Mbappé, the letter that changes everything?
Under contract at PSG until 2024, with an additional year as an option, Kylian Mbappé has officially informed his club that he will not be exercising this option. Could this give a boost to the upcoming summer mercato?
This is the news of the day and perhaps of the week in the world of the mercato and PSG. According to L'Equipe, <a href=/news/mercato-psg-mbappe-has-made-a-big-decision-for-his-future>which already revealed last month that this was the big trend, Kylian Mbappé has decided not to exercise the option in his contract to extend until 2025 and officially made this known to his club this Monday, via a letter.

The letter came as both a surprise and a disappointment to PSG, who believed that recent discussions with their player regarding an extension beyond 2025 had been positive. And while the Parisian club has repeated in recent weeks that Mbappé would not be sold this summer, regardless of his decision regarding this option year, L'Equipe assures us that the tone has changed on the PSG side.
PSG now ready to sell Mbappé this summer
The Parisian club is now prepared to sell Mbappé this summer, unless he shows signs of wanting to extend his contract. In any case, PSG are adamant that Mbappé will not leave the club free in 2024. It's a statement PSG already made before the world champion's extension on the gong in May 2022. It remains to be seen whether Paris will succeed this time in convincing its star of the seriousness of its project.
In any case, L'Equipe's report is already causing a stir in France and Spain. Karim Benzema has left for Saudi Arabia, and Real Madrid are looking for a new star striker. Asked about Mbappé by a Real fan last week, Florentino Pérez replied, "We'll recruit him, yes, but not this year." However, if the opportunity arises this summer, the Madrid president will not hesitate to take action.
