Mercato PSG, Real Madrid: Tottenham sets its price for Harry Kane
Real Madrid want Harry Kane to replace Karim Benzema, according to several corroborating sources, and Tottenham have set a price of 116 million euros for their striker, according to the English press.
We thought the soap opera was over after Marca's announcement on Thursday evening. A few hours after presenting Karim Benzema with a "legend" trophy, the powerful Spanish sports daily announced that KB9 had decided to turn down a lucrative Saudi offer and stay on at Real Madrid for another year. But on Sunday, a few hours before their final match of the season against Bilbao, Real Madrid made the departure of their captain and number 9 official.
With this departure, Real Madrid will be forced to recruit a top-class striker this summer. Joselu will replace Mariano Diaz, Kai Havertz could bolster the attacking line, but Real are targeting an even more prestigious name than the German to replace Benzema. And with Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland unavailable this summer, all eyes are on Harry Kane, who has just one year left on his contract at Tottenham.
Tottenham to ask Real for €116m for Kane
According to Marca, the 29-year-old England international, also being courted by PSG, is the preferred option for Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid's sporting management to replace Benzema. All that remains now is to negotiate with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who has a reputation for being tough on business. The latter categorically refuses to sell his striker to an English club (Manchester United are interested), which could do Real Madrid good.
According to the Daily Mail, an English tabloid, Daniel Levy will demand £100m from Real for his captain, or €116m at today's exchange rate. "But there would be room for negotiation, given that Levy doesn't want to do business with another English club", believes the Daily Mail. In the past, Real Madrid have already recruited two Tottenham stars, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale. Three's company?
