The 27-year-old Spanish left-back is a regular at Benfica and has signed a contract until June 2027 with the German club, which is currently in seventh place in the Bundesliga and in the semi-finals of the Europa League (Leverkusen lost 1-0 to AS Roma in the first leg).
"I played for seven years at a big European club, but I'm just attracted by the fact that I can now show my strengths in the Bundesliga. For me it is one of the best leagues in Europe, and as far as the atmosphere in the stadiums is concerned, it is certainly unique. The fact that a Bundesliga club like Bayer 04 has gone out of its way to recruit me makes me very proud," Grimaldo told his new club's website.
