Official: Rafael Benitez agrees deal with Celta Vigo

For their centenary season, Celta Vigo will have Rafael Benitez on the bench.

Luis Campos, Celta Vigo's sporting consultant, has pulled off a major coup. Having finished a disappointing 13th in La Liga last season, the Galician club have reached an agreement in principle with the experienced Rafael Benitez, who has been free since his dismissal from Everton in January 2022.

Rafael Benitez is expected to sign a three-year contract with Celta Vigo in July, running until June 2026. The 2023-2024 season will be a special one for the Galician club, which will be celebrating its 100th anniversary.

"Rafa Benítez has accumulated a total of 1,099 matches at the highest level, during which he has won 549 victories, an enviable record," the Galician club hailed in its statement.
