Official: Zlatan Ibrahimovic ends his career
In the wake of AC Milan's 3-1 victory over Hellas Verona, Zlatan Ibrahimovic announced the end of his playing career.
A European soccer legend hangs up his boots. This Sunday evening, Zlatan Ibrahimovic announced the end of his playing career following AC Milan's 3-1 victory over Hellas Verona. The 41-year-old Swedish giant, who underwent knee surgery a year ago, had reached the end of his contract on June 30 and has decided not to go any further.
"The time has come to say goodbye to soccer".
"I'm having trouble breathing but it's okay, there are so many memories in this stadium. First you gave me love, then happiness. I'd like to thank my family for their patience. I want to thank my second family: the players. I'd like to thank the coach, the staff and the directors," said Ibra on the San Siro pitch, before concluding his speech with this announcement: "Last but not least, from the bottom of my heart, I'd like to thank you, the fans. The time has come to say goodbye to soccer.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic first came to prominence in his native Sweden with Malmö, then exploded onto the scene with Ajax Amsterdam before moving on to Italy, where he played for Juventus Turin, Inter Milan and AC Milan. There was also a mixed season with FC Barcelona, despite some good statistics. Then there were his four memorable seasons with PSG, two years with Manchester United and his MLS adventure with Los Angeles Galaxy, before finally returning to AC Milan in January 2020. A club he brought back to the summit of Italian soccer last year and with whom he will probably work in the future, but in a different role to that of brilliant striker and charismatic leader.
Zlatan Ibrahimović has scored a goal in every year since 1999 and in every possible minute of a 90-minute match.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic may never have won the Champions League, the Ballon d'Or or any other international competition with Sweden, but he has won titles at every club he has played for (except LA Galaxy) and scored some memorable goals. All this, combined with a strong personality and a flair for the punchline, set him apart from the rest.
